My Second Job

First of all, thank you so much for all of the wonderful comments on my previous post. Even though it was an incredibly vague post, it really felt like so many of you understood where I was coming from and I honestly loved reading each comment. Thank you for being so thoughtful, supportive, and just all around amazing.

Alright, now onto how things became a little crazier this week.

If I had my way, I would just stay home with Fox all day and play. And Camaron would be there too. And our home would be Disneyland. And there would be no lines. And churros would be free. Unfortunately, at this point in my life, I can't have all of that. But that is fine, my life is still pretty dang great. I do get to play with Camaron and Fox a ton, but I'm not a stay-at-home mom. While being a mom is my number one job, I do also require working a second job -perk of having a husband who is currently rockin it as a college student. The past few months, I have been working part-time at a women's clothing store nearby, just a few nights a week. It's worked out pretty well -we only need a babysitter every once in a while, and I get a nice discount. It's been nice, but lately I've been working less than 10 hours a week. Let's just say the excitement over having an extra paycheck has definitely dwindled lately.

That's where Sarah comes in. Sarah is our neighbor, and her and her husband are good friends of ours. She recently started a new job and has been loving it. It just so happened they needed extra help at her work, so she put in a recommendation for me, and they hired me on the spot! It pays more and has a lot more hours. This was exactly what we needed. The only downside is that I will now be working during the day, often at the same time as Camaron. I immediately started stressing out over what we would do about Fox. My new job would be Mon-Sat, so who would be available to watch him that often? Could we afford to pay someone? Basically, I freaked out.

Then everyone came to the rescue.

Wow, I have amazing friends. I received so many offers of help that we were able to get everything sorted out and my panic has completely dissolved. I know Fox will be in good hands, and I'll be able to help out better with our income. I really do have a great life.

I'll keep you posted on how my first week at the new job goes. Now I just need to figure out what to do with my clothing store job...

Happy weekend!!!

Hey AJ- I know how you feel being a working mom! I wish I could stay home and be with Meg all day. Matt is going to school full time so I'm currently working. The way I look at it is you have to be happy with whatever stage of life you are at. I'm sure when I get to be a stay at home mom, somedays I'll wish I was working. Then the second way I look at it is I am working so I can provide the necessities for Meg. If we all were on welfare, our country would go to pot. :D I enjoy reading your posts! He is such a cute baby!- Nicci

  2. Congrats! Today is National Women's day- and most of the women that are my heros are the ones who juggle many responsibilities. I think it takes a lot of courage to be a working mom- especially in the LDS culture. You go girl!! You will make it work, and down the road, Fox will admire you for it.
