Sponsor // 2Messy

Cutie blogger, 2Messy, has been one of my sponsors this month. Her blog is always jam-packed with adorable pictures, and her shop is seriously so cute (and is so affordable!) I did a little interview of 2Messy's Shelley so we could get to know her a little better. Please don't judge me for my horrible interviewing/questioning skills, just love that Shelley came out on top with her awesome answers:)

It's starting to warm up! (at least it is in my neck of the woods) Do you have any fun trips/plans for this spring? Well, I always go home to British Columbia in the early summer, but I just got back from Disneyworld with my dance troop! I'll be doing some wicked blog posts about that trip soon!

What things do you look for when you choose a favorite blog to follow? Great photos (I'm not much a photographer) and I of course love DIY's.

Which blogs do you follow most/inspire you most: Kyla Roma, Freckled Nest, A Beautiful Mess.

As a Canadian, what is your favorite thing about Canada/where you're from/hometown ...etc. I have been lucky enough to live all over Canada. I was born in BC and I love the mountains and ocean...but the grey skies kill me. The prairies are so flat but very golden and dry in the summers. It's awesome. Ontario has a great river and I have made some really good friends here. :)

It's March (almost April)! How are you doing on new year's resolutions? Any big plans for the rest of 2013? I don't do resolutions, never have. I am working on a big plan career wise, but it's a secret, can't tell ya sorry!

How/when did you start blogging? A couple years ago when I moved to Ontario.

I love your photos on your blog. What kind of camera do you use? Any photo/photoshop tips? All my photos are from my phone. I don't even own a camera. But it's pretty good. I use Phixr a lot cause it's quick and easy.

Tell us a bit about you and your adorable family:) I don't have a family...LOL I have a dog named Chuck Norris though.

I loooove your shop. How did you get into sewing/fashion design/being super cute? I have been sewing for years started in high school. I just do little DIY projects and sell them :)

What are your favorite posts to write on your blog (crafts, family, events...) ? Mostly crafts and my travels. I have been lucky enough to travel a lot. :)

Thanks Shelley! Be sure to check out more on her blog, 2Messy

Stand Up

This is where Fox always seems to end up nowadays -holding on to the edge of the coffee table, standing up. No matter where I set him down to play in the living room, he always finds his way to the coffee table and pulls himself right up. At first, this freaked me out a little bit because sometimes he would slip off and fall down and start crying. Luckily, the crying was just from being scared, as opposed to being hurt. But I couldn't help but worry he would eventually hurt himself. But now it seems like the only thing we need to worry about is keeping him from getting to the oreos on the coffee table (I like to keep them within arms length when I'm watching Community or Parenthood, naturally).

Not gonna lie, I'm confusingly excited that the only thing getting in the way of this kid standing up and walking all on his own seems to be a better sense of balance. The excited part is there because I just love that Fox is learning to better control his body, and I love that he loves it! The confusing part comes in because I feel like I shouldn't be excited for this little guy to grow up so fast. Because, honestly, it has been going so incredibly fast. That's the way it goes though, right? It's a bit of a bummer that he's not always going to be a tiny baby, but as he gets older each day, he's only becoming more and more fun. It just keeps getting better and better. So I will cherish all of his tiny snuggles and his huge dependence on me, but I won't let myself linger there. I will keep moving forward with him.
Or at least that's what I'll keep telling myself.

The Last Night

Wednesday night was my last night working the clothing store job. Thank goodness. It wasn't a bad job, it was just a little crazy working that job and the new job along with being an awesome mom and wifey.

When I walked in to start my last shift, I was surprised to find that the only person there was the company's district manager. I had never met her before, but I had been warned she can be a beast. I asked her where everyone else was, and she just said they had left earlier. Weird. Later on, she was talking to me about it being my last day and was asking about my new job and things like that ...then she broke the news. Apparently my manager was no longer working for the company. That's how she worded it. I didn't want to pry about whether she had been fired or had quit, but I sooooo wanted to know! It was killing me all night to know what happened. It's still killing me! I need to know what drama went down before I clocked in! The lady told me the news and had been asking about my new job because she wanted to know if I could come in a few nights next week to help while they're in this little lurch.

Ughhhh. This has happened before -I have my last day of work at a job, and then they call me back a few more times because they are understaffed. I feel like such a pushover when I give in and come back. I hate it. I told her I'd talk to my husband and get back to her the next day.

The district manager then left and told me she'd be back at closing to help out (even though I've been closing by myself for months). Once she left, so did any motivation for me to work hard that night. I mean, my manager didn't work there anymore. And who's this lady? I also had a gut feeling that this lady had fired my manager. My manager who was a single mom with a 7 month old (same as Fox) working 40+ hours a week receiving no benefits. Not cool.

So I spent my evening learning a new skill (seriously, there were balloons and instructions just sitting on a table in the store. What?).

Then I went out to grab some frozen yogurt. Yes, I straight up walked out of the store and down to the fro yo shop a few doors down. Salted caramel and oatmeal cookie frozen yogurt. #rebel

I texted. I tweeted. I instagrammed. I facebooked. All of the silly verbs. All of the things I would never normally do while working -I typically like to keep things professional.

And it was AMAZING!

And on top of that. I ended up going above and beyond our sales goals for the night. Boom!

p.s. Yesterday, I called the district manager to inform her that I would not be able to come in next week. I'm done:)

Two Little Teeth

Apparently it's Fox "baby milestone" week on the blog. Basically, this kid is just growing way too fast. Along with the recent crawling, this little guy now has his first teeth! They first made their appearance while we were in Oceanside a few weeks ago. He clamped down on one of my fingers and there was no longer any doubt about whether or not his teeth had finally cut through.

One of the reasons it has taken me so long to post his first teethy pictures has been that the auto-focus on our camera stopped working. Lame. And with how much this kid has been moving lately, it's become very difficult to clearly capture him using the manual focus. Luckily, we were able to add another lens to our repertoire this week (50mm 1.8f). I'm loving it. I'm a little obsessed with depth-of-field right now, so this lens is just rubbing me the right way. And does that first photo not look like the cover of a book??
Two Little Teeth by Fox Ezra Stevenson -now available in hardcover.

My Second Job

First of all, thank you so much for all of the wonderful comments on my previous post. Even though it was an incredibly vague post, it really felt like so many of you understood where I was coming from and I honestly loved reading each comment. Thank you for being so thoughtful, supportive, and just all around amazing.

Alright, now onto how things became a little crazier this week.

If I had my way, I would just stay home with Fox all day and play. And Camaron would be there too. And our home would be Disneyland. And there would be no lines. And churros would be free. Unfortunately, at this point in my life, I can't have all of that. But that is fine, my life is still pretty dang great. I do get to play with Camaron and Fox a ton, but I'm not a stay-at-home mom. While being a mom is my number one job, I do also require working a second job -perk of having a husband who is currently rockin it as a college student. The past few months, I have been working part-time at a women's clothing store nearby, just a few nights a week. It's worked out pretty well -we only need a babysitter every once in a while, and I get a nice discount. It's been nice, but lately I've been working less than 10 hours a week. Let's just say the excitement over having an extra paycheck has definitely dwindled lately.

That's where Sarah comes in. Sarah is our neighbor, and her and her husband are good friends of ours. She recently started a new job and has been loving it. It just so happened they needed extra help at her work, so she put in a recommendation for me, and they hired me on the spot! It pays more and has a lot more hours. This was exactly what we needed. The only downside is that I will now be working during the day, often at the same time as Camaron. I immediately started stressing out over what we would do about Fox. My new job would be Mon-Sat, so who would be available to watch him that often? Could we afford to pay someone? Basically, I freaked out.

Then everyone came to the rescue.

Wow, I have amazing friends. I received so many offers of help that we were able to get everything sorted out and my panic has completely dissolved. I know Fox will be in good hands, and I'll be able to help out better with our income. I really do have a great life.

I'll keep you posted on how my first week at the new job goes. Now I just need to figure out what to do with my clothing store job...

Happy weekend!!!

Seeing the Greatness

It seems like whenever I fall of the blogging train for a few days (or a week), it's so hard to get back on. I second guess myself and my writing so much more. But the longer I wait, the worse it gets, so here we are. I wasn't sure what to blog about today, but I knew today was the day
(especially since Fox is rocking a nap right now).

Here is a little of what's on my mind today:

I go through rough patches in my life every once in a while. Well, sometimes it's more often than that. I won't go into it very deep right now (someday I'll actually post one of the essays I've written on the subject), but today I found this post to be so comforting. I really want to read that book now, because it covers the topics that I've recently finally started to come to terms with. And isn't it always comforting to know that there are others with weaknesses similar to yours? That it's not necessarily something wrong with you, just something you have yet to master?

Along with that, Camaron posted a quote on his FB wall earlier today that just really complemented my recent thoughts. I liked it so much that I decided to make it pretty:)

I love this. Never have I felt happier than when I am pushing myself to become better -and I greatly attribute that to those who I like to keep company with.
