Self Portraits

If you follow me on Instagram or Twitter, then you may have noticed my face clogging your feed lately. Yes, I am doing a 30 day self portrait challenge. It's being put on by Elsie and Emma over at A Beautiful Mess, and just looking through some of these ladies' self portraits is enough motivation to do the challenge in itself -they are self portrait masters. Along with improving my skills of taking my own portrait, I also wanted to do this because I really feel like my face is often missing from this blog (well, obviously not lately -I got a little photo happy on our camping trip). I love taking pictures, which often leads to me only being behind the camera as opposed to in front of it, so there's that too. And, like too many of us are, I am often critical of how I look, which leads to me making silly faces for the camera or only taking pictures of myself when I feel good about my outfit, makeup, and hair. But then I'll get extra critical of myself for being vain, and never post them. Wow, what a cycle.

I plan to do a photo re-cap each week of my selfies (you know you love that word). Anyone else doing the challenge? You can start anytime -I started 2 days late and that didn't stop me:)

Falling Trees, Eating Flapjacks, Wearing Flannel...

...such is the life.

p.s. I basically want to include every post of my life with that last photo. Fox!

Fox in the wild

It would have been a shame if Fox had hated camping -a kid named Fox hating the forest??? Luckily, this little kid thrives in the great outdoors! He felt the wild grass and leaves, played with sticks and branches, smiled as the cool mountain breeze blew through the little hairs on his head...

We had been putting off camping for a little bit because we were worried how Fox would do -especially at night. Luckily he has a great family who played with him all day so he easily fell asleep in his grandma's arms while the rest of us ate snacks, played games, and visited. He stayed asleep when we put him on our slowly-deflating (seriously the worst) air mattress and stayed asleep most of the night laying between us under the blankets. It was so much better than expected -even with the 4am face-jumping-and giggling-session Fox scheduled without warning us.

Ok, so who's down for one last camping trip before summer ends??

And yes, Fox is now obsessed with off-road vehicles.

p.s. Traditional lumberjack photo session on its way tomorrow. Be sure to eat your flapjacks!

Into The Forest

Over the weekend, we spent some time with my side of the family camping up in Northern Arizona. It's so nice to know there is such beautiful weather only 2 hours away (especially when your face is burning off in mid-July, here in the valley). It was a weekend of delicious food, glorious weather (even the rain), riding quads, shooting rifles, playing games, and eating more delicious food. Perfection.

It was Fox's first time camping, and he's basically a pro now. Did you see that picture of him in the tent?! He was home.

To be able to spend time with family, without all of the distractions of everyday life*, is just such a blessing. I loved being able to learn more about the people I'm related to, to show Fox new adventures, dressing like a lumberjack, and I always love getting extra time with Camaron:)

*Seriously, my phone was OFF the whole weekend. I don't even do that on airplanes!

BLOOMIN

It's amazing what a seed the size of a sliver can grow to become.

And just like that...

Well, I called in to the office and put in my 2 weeks last night. I'm going back to being a stay-at-home mom for a while. Camaron is starting a new job that is making this possible. I am so grateful for him and that he is willing to work so much while going to school so that our family can have this blessing for now. The office job I've been working has been great, but I am definitely excited to have more time at home with Fox and not having to be scrambling for babysitters all of the time anymore. I'm not sure if it will stay like this in the fall, but for now I'm just so relieved. ...And I am cleaning and baking a ton (I need to make sure Camaron realizes I am awesome at staying home all day:) )

And here are some summertime cuties simply for good measure

p.s. the garden is going nuts! There are seriously vines all over our backyard's business. And our poopy car is being poopy again. Anyone want it??
