I'm a little worried that these lessons in big city livin' may become a series on this blog -because, apparently, we still have a lot to learn. This lesson was learned over the weekend. Camaron had a job interview on Tuesday and he needed some footage of him in front of the camera reporting a story. So we decided to venture down near the National Mall as a family to get Camaron's footage and then maybe explore a little.
I don't know how it is for everyone else who has/had little kids, but it seems like it often takes forever to leave the house. There's just so much to do -make sure diaper bags are packed, kids have socks and shoes on, diapers have been recently changed, kids are fed, get them to stop crying, put shoes and socks on again, etc... We didn't bring the stroller because we rode the bus to the metro stop, so i wore Sloane in her wrap and Camaron carried Fox (kiddo didn't feel like walking at the moment). We got to the bus stop and double-checked that we had our metro cards. That was when we discovered Camaron had forgotten his wallet. So we walked back home, got it, and tried again. The buses don't come as often on weekends, so it took a while to really get going. We finally got on a bus, rode to the metro, then headed downtown.
It was golden hour -perfect lighting for Cam's video. And there were very few people about -incredibly rare, in our experience. Awesome. The kids were being great, so Camaron put on his suit coat, straightened his tie, we set up the shot, got ready to push record ...and realized we didn't have an SD card in the camera. Somehow we forgot to make sure it was in the camera. The camera won't record without it. So there we were, all set and ready to go, but without a way to record Camaron's video. So what did we do? We made bummed-out faces at each other and then went to Shake Shack for fries and a Doughnuts are Forever concrete.
So I guess we learned two lessons that day. 1: always double-check that you have EVERYTHING you need for your outing -especially when it's not easy to quickly head back home to grab something. 2: Shake Shack fixes everything.
